Our medical nutrition services are available for anyone who has been diagnosed with a medical condition or symptoms of a medical condition or its treatment, that can be improved or alleviated through nutrition interventions. Examples of this include but are not limited to diabetes, autoimmune diseases and treatments, food allergies, cancer treatment, heart disease, PCOS, endocrine conditions, gastrointestinal diseases or disturbances, etc.

Our general nutrition services are designed to provide guidance and support to anyone looking to increase their knowledge of nutrition and/or enhance how they procure, prepare and use food to nourish and fuel their bodies. Sessions will include education around the adequate intake to meet the client’s specific nutrient needs as well as guidance and strategies around meal planning and preparation. We will also explore how sleep, movement, hydration, and stress play a role in nutrient needs and dietary interventions because we know that nutrition is just one piece of the wellness puzzle.

We provide comprehensive nutrition education and support while also considering our client’s current lifestyle, support system, past experiences that impact current needs, personal preferences, medication interactions, and other factors that are important in treating the whole person rather than just the disease.

These services are for anyone suffering from an eating disorder, disordered eating, obsessive thoughts around food, body image distress, or a desire to recover from chronic dieting. We treat all eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, OSFED, ARFID, and binge eating. Our interventions and treatments are HAES-informed, weight-inclusive, and evidence-based. We know that eating disorders can affect everyone regardless of body size, gender, age, ethnicity, race, culture, socioeconomic status, and physical ability and we are aware of and sensitive to the stigmas and stereotypes often associated with eating disorders.

Our dietitians who specialize in treating eating disorders have extensive training and experience and work closely with other care providers (therapists, family doctors, psychiatrists, etc.) to ensure our clients are being treated with an interdisciplinary “team” approach to properly address the complexities of the disease. When necessary or indicated, we incorporate family members, friends and partners into our work to create and maintain as much support as we can around our client’s efforts. It is well-documented that this comprehensive and inclusive approach to treatment improves outcomes for recovery.

Pediatric Nutrition Counseling (0-12 y.o.)

These services are specifically for our young pediatric clients (ages 0-12) and their caregivers. All of our clinicians are trained and highly experienced in children and adolescents over the age of 12.

A Little Something About Me

Nice to meet you! My name is Katie and I accidentally fell in love with nutrition through my passion for psychology and counseling. The universe led me to a few counseling jobs within the eating disorder field, which is now my area of expertise as a dietitian. Nowadays, I am most often answering to “mama,” as I have a young daughter that I spend most of my time with outside of work. In addition to my degree in nutrition and psychology, I hold an art degree — one that today only gets used when I find time to paint. However, I am always enthusiastically trying to find ways to stay creative through baking, physical activity and movement, and decorating for the holidays (namely spooky season!). In my spare time, you can find watching the latest series on Bravo or Instagram posting and promoting eating disorder recovery content.

Areas of Specialty

A majority of my work involves helping clients to improve their relationships with food and their bodies using an inclusive, and individualized, anti-diet approach. My expertise lies in eating disorders, sports nutrition, and pre/postpartum care. My background in psychology and long history working in mental health has equipped me to work with various co occurring conditions that impact nutrition. In addition to my clinical work at Balanced, I am also the professional outreach director, and am always happy to chat with you about our many wonderful clinical relationships.

Nutrition Philosophy

My own nutrition philosophy is a mix of anti-diet, HAES, and no-stress nutrition. The goal is always to balance the science of nutrition with enjoyment of life. I will challenge you expand your definition of health beyond weight and numbers to include sleep, energy, movement, mood, food, relationships, and so on. My goal is to understand your unique relationship with food and eating, your history with movement and exercise, and other life experiences that have shaped you. From there we will then work to marry your specific needs with the evidence-based nutrition goals that make sense to you.

A Little Something About Me

Hi, my name is Rachel, one of the four dietitians named Rachel at Balanced Nutrition. I am originally from Louisville, KY, however, have been living in Philadelphia for the past three years with my cat, Julian! When I am not being a dietitian, I enjoy thrifting, reading, and attempting to DIY my apartment.

Areas of Speciality

I have experience working in a variety of areas of nutrition, with a particular focus on eating disorders. With three years of experience in this field, including valuable time at a residential treatment facility, I am dedicated to supporting clients on their journey to recovery and promoting a healthy relationship with food. My background in exercise physiology adds depth to my practice; I previously worked as a personal trainer and consulted for my college’s football team, allowing me to integrate fitness and nutrition seamlessly. Additionally, I have extensive experience working with individuals facing challenges related to cancer, gastrointestinal issues, heart health, and diabetes.

Nutrition Philosophy

My nutrition philosophy centers around a weight-neutral approach, embracing the Health at Every Size (HAES) principles. I believe that health is not solely defined by weight, but rather by overall well-being, and I am committed to supporting clients in their journeys, regardless of their body size. As an LGBTQ+ inclusive and trauma-informed dietitian, I strive to create a safe and welcoming space for all individuals. I understand the unique challenges faced by marginalized communities and prioritize a supportive environment where everyone can feel comfortable discussing their relationships with food and their bodies. My goal is to help clients heal their relationships with food, encouraging intuitive eating and fostering a positive body image. Together, we can work towards a more balanced and fulfilling approach to nutrition that honors your individuality and promotes lasting wellness

A Little Something About Me Hey everyone! I’m Erin. I’ve been a dietitian for 8 years practicing from Philly to the Hawaiian islands. If I’m not petitioning for justice for carbohydrates, you’re likely to find me drinking a pistachio latte in a cozy coffee shop, listening to true crime podcasts or spending time with my pack— my husband, baby boy, and rescue mutt.

Areas of Specialty

I have a strong clinical background & enjoy helping people tackle disordered eating & heal from chronic dieting. I especially love providing nutrition support for binge eating disorder, GI related concerns, as well as working with women through their fertility, pregnancy and postnatal journeys My other passion is oncology nutrition. I find it very fulfilling to help people learn about the power nutrition holds in feeling their best, staying strong, preventing complications, and improving overall quality of life through cancer treatment and beyond. I have been a certified specialist in oncology nutrition for 5 years.

Nutrition Philosophy

As a nutrition provider, I strive to help clients nourish their bodies in a way that is adequate, sustainable, flexible, and enjoyable! I know how important it is to look at “the full picture” of health and am a staunch believer that HAES & intuitive eating principles can align with most chronic conditions for a non-restrictive, gentle-nutrition approach.   I honestly love to geek out about nutrition! In our sessions I often provide education on the science of food in a relaxed and approachable way, so that you fully understand the “why” behind what is happening with food in your body, as well as the nutrition plan we set together.  As someone who struggled with disordered eating during my early college years, I also understand on a deep level not only how challenging it can be to break through the noise of diet culture, but also how healing & full life is on the other side.

A Little Something About Me

Hi, I’m Lily! I started out as an intern with Balanced Nutrition and felt so inspired with the anti-diet and Health At Every Size (HAES) healthcare space. I am beyond lucky to do this work every day and meet with some really incredible clients! Outside of work, you can find me at a thrift or vintage store and in session you’ll probably see me in my latest second- hand score! I love expressing myself through fashion, funky earrings, and tattoos. I also really love reading, cooking, exploring new restaurants and hiking with my pup Luna.

Areas of Specialty

I have a dense background and passion in eating disorders and disordered eating recovery and started my career at The Renfrew Center. With this background, I also counsel folks who are ditching diet culture and wanting to learn more about intuitive eating practices. In addition to my interests above, I played field hockey growing up and played at the collegiate level at West Chester University of Pennsylvania.  My athletic background is what originally got me interested in nutrition. I really enjoy doing sports nutrition work, specifically athletes in recovery. Another passion of mine is women’s health; fertility, perinatal, postpartum, PCOS and amenorrhea nutrition support.

Nutrition Philosophy

When working with me, expect a safe space, a judgement free zone and commitment to providing weight-inclusive, fat-positive and LGBTQ+ affirming care. I want to get to know you outside of just your nutrition concerns to determine how nutrition can best support you— as we know, nutrition is not a one size fits all and it’s not just about the food! I believe in educating folks on anti-diet, intuitive eating, HAES concepts that focus more on behavior change than what the scale says, and self-compassion in meeting health goals. If you have any questions, prior to booking with me, give us a shout!

A Little Something About Me

Hey there! I jumped into the world of dietetics in 2021 after spending years in education and agriculture, which gave me a unique perspective on our food system. With over a decade of experience working with teens and young adults, I thrive on connecting with others and helping them build positive relationships with food and themselves. A big part of my life has been my 15 years as a catcher in softball, including playing for Penn State Hazleton. I also love horseback riding, and Chocolate. When I’m not at work, you can find me being a proud cat mom to Peaches, staying active, or spending time with family and friends. I enjoy catching a Phillies game, cozy movie nights, and embarking on new adventures. A core value to who I am is the importance of continuous learning and growth.

Areas of Specialty

My expertise includes supporting individuals with eating disorders, both adolescents and adults, and addressing disordered eating patterns. I also focus on sports nutrition and general health nutrition, covering topics like high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, weight concerns, and women’s health. Remember, healthy living comes in all shapes and sizes, and together we’ll work on positive behavior changes that fit your unique journey!

A Little Something About Me

Hi there!  I’m Shannon the Diet Technician and Chef at Balanced Nutrition.  After my first career as a chef, I returned to school and have been a Diet Technician since 2007. It has been my dream to incorporate cooking classes with nutrition.  I hope to help provide a space to support clients who struggle with cooking skills, meal ideas, preparation, and confidence in the kitchen. When not seeing my cooking session clients I provide nutrition programming for Nourish, a Center for Families partial hospitalization program. I love to promote fun with food. In addition to cooking, I enjoy reading, art, animals, music, and spending time with my family.

Areas of Specialty

Currently I lead all the cooking sessions for Balanced. I am a certified culinary coach, ARFID specialist and have been employed in the field of disordered eating for the past 18 years. I discuss food and challenges related to food with my clients.  My strengths are menus, recipes, meal planning, food history, and cooking.   I strive to help clients create better experiences with food and increase cooking confidence while learning life skills.

Nutrition Philosophy

When working with me clients can expect an individualized process with support.  During cooking sessions, we interact virtually together. We work side by side, checking in on goals, preparing a meal, and focusing on what is happening in the moment. I believe nutrition/eating is a form of self-care.  By cooking with my clients, I hope to guide them towards their goals with life skills and hopefully some fun.
