Our medical nutrition services are available for anyone who has been diagnosed with a medical condition or symptoms of a medical condition or its treatment, that can be improved or alleviated through nutrition interventions. Examples of this include but are not limited to diabetes, autoimmune diseases and treatments, food allergies, cancer treatment, heart disease, PCOS, endocrine conditions, gastrointestinal diseases or disturbances, etc.

Our general nutrition services are designed to provide guidance and support to anyone looking to increase their knowledge of nutrition and/or enhance how they procure, prepare and use food to nourish and fuel their bodies. Sessions will include education around the adequate intake to meet the client’s specific nutrient needs as well as guidance and strategies around meal planning and preparation. We will also explore how sleep, movement, hydration, and stress play a role in nutrient needs and dietary interventions because we know that nutrition is just one piece of the wellness puzzle.

We provide comprehensive nutrition education and support while also considering our client’s current lifestyle, support system, past experiences that impact current needs, personal preferences, medication interactions, and other factors that are important in treating the whole person rather than just the disease.

These services are for anyone suffering from an eating disorder, disordered eating, obsessive thoughts around food, body image distress, or a desire to recover from chronic dieting. We treat all eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, OSFED, ARFID, and binge eating. Our interventions and treatments are HAES-informed, weight-inclusive, and evidence-based. We know that eating disorders can affect everyone regardless of body size, gender, age, ethnicity, race, culture, socioeconomic status, and physical ability and we are aware of and sensitive to the stigmas and stereotypes often associated with eating disorders.

Our dietitians who specialize in treating eating disorders have extensive training and experience and work closely with other care providers (therapists, family doctors, psychiatrists, etc.) to ensure our clients are being treated with an interdisciplinary “team” approach to properly address the complexities of the disease. When necessary or indicated, we incorporate family members, friends and partners into our work to create and maintain as much support as we can around our client’s efforts. It is well-documented that this comprehensive and inclusive approach to treatment improves outcomes for recovery.

A Little Something About Me

I have been a dietitian for over 10 years and have been with Balanced Nutrition for over 5 years. I am a Mom of two young girls and an animal lover. I spend a lot of time outside and love horseback riding. I am a Floridian at heart and love time with family and friends. Traveling is great, but give me a weekend with some of my closest friends or husband and it won’t matter where we are, we will have the best time. I’ve really embraced slowing down and enjoying simple things in life. That being said, I love to continue to learn and grow in my career and through all the wonderful clients I’ve met along the way. Oh, and of course, I love food! I have never met a carb I didn’t like.

Areas of Specialty

After graduating from my Master’s program, I fell into a job working with eating disorders. I never imagined I would love this work as much as I do and I am very thankful for my professional journey. Educating, counseling and connecting with clients in the outpatient setting is my dream job—a dream come true. Clients that tend to connect most with my approach and expertise are those who have have lost their way with food and body image- whether through chronic dieting, eating disorders, GI issues/complications, sports nutrition, fertility, or postpartum.

Nutrition Philosophy

I am passionate about sound and safe nutrition practices. I am not a fan of diet culture and the multi-billion dollar diet industry that has altered so many of our beliefs around what is important about nutrition and fueling our bodies. I take a gentle approach, focusing on intuitive eating practices and healing your relationship with food and your body.  My goal is for every client I work with to feel confident in their food choices and feel like food is just a another part of their life, not the primary focus. I am very comfortable with body image work and help clients find a more neutral space. I focus on working with your body rather than constantly fighting against it. To do this, I shift the focus away from weight changes and towards the goal of feeling empowered in your body, regardless of the number on the scale.  This may seem intimidating at first, but I promise to always meet you where you are and focus on individualizing your goals and care.

A Little Something About Me

Nice to meet you! My name is Katie and I accidentally fell in love with nutrition through my passion for psychology and counseling. The universe led me to a few counseling jobs within the eating disorder field, which is now my area of expertise as a dietitian. Nowadays, I am most often answering to “mama,” as I have a young daughter that I spend most of my time with outside of work. In addition to my degree in nutrition and psychology, I hold an art degree — one that today only gets used when I find time to paint. However, I am always enthusiastically trying to find ways to stay creative through baking, physical activity and movement, and decorating for the holidays (namely spooky season!). In my spare time, you can find watching the latest series on Bravo or Instagram posting and promoting eating disorder recovery content.

Areas of Specialty

A majority of my work involves helping clients to improve their relationships with food and their bodies using an inclusive, and individualized, anti-diet approach. My expertise lies in eating disorders, sports nutrition, and pre/postpartum care. My background in psychology and long history working in mental health has equipped me to work with various co occurring conditions that impact nutrition. In addition to my clinical work at Balanced, I am also the professional outreach director, and am always happy to chat with you about our many wonderful clinical relationships.

Nutrition Philosophy

My own nutrition philosophy is a mix of anti-diet, HAES, and no-stress nutrition. The goal is always to balance the science of nutrition with enjoyment of life. I will challenge you expand your definition of health beyond weight and numbers to include sleep, energy, movement, mood, food, relationships, and so on. My goal is to understand your unique relationship with food and eating, your history with movement and exercise, and other life experiences that have shaped you. From there we will then work to marry your specific needs with the evidence-based nutrition goals that make sense to you.

A Little Something About Me

Hey there! I’m Lauren. I’ve been part of the Balanced team for four years and am a licensed dietitian in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Delaware. I feel incredibly lucky to say that I enjoy showing up to work with my clients each day. When I’m outside of work, I’m spending time with my husband and daughter; I absolutely love being a mother. You can usually find me exploring nature on adventure runs/hikes, hitting a local coffee shop, baking, or singing my favorite jams (not well, but loudly and proudly).

Areas of Specialty

My main area of specialty is disordered eating and eating disorders. I’m passionate about working with anyone looking to explore and improve their relationship with food and their body. As a former collegiate athlete and runner, I very much enjoy working with and relate to athletes of any age and ability. I’m also passionate about intuitive eating approaches and often address gastrointestinal concerns, fertility and pregnancy, and other medical issues including diabetes and PCOS.

Nutrition philosophy

I strive to take a realistic, holistic and respectful approach when working with my clients, making sure to check in about the direction and sustainability of nutrition goals. Relationships with my wonderful clients are often candid and down to earth as I hope to provide a safe and judgement free space for discussions about nutrition. I’m committed to non-weight centric care (HAES aligned) and a non-diet approach with emphasis on finding joy with food and movement.
